Webster says "laity" is all the people not included among the clergy. They are the heart of Jesus Christ's commission. The laity finance, uphold the mission, serve on the committees that help to carry out the "Good News". The "laity" is much more. They prepare the bereavement meals, the meals of love, teach in the Church School, sing in the choirs, ring the bells, send cards, and send on the prayer chains. We do have vision statements but they are outward signs -- it is the heart "the secret" kind acts that make us the followers of Jesus Christ. On Sunday, October 19, we honored the laity and were blessed by Bud Payne and Darleen Long who carried the message on that day. Roger Roettele and Tim Vehr were the liturgists. The choir sang, the acolytes lit the candles, the congregation listened -- All laity -- All followers of Jesus Christ.
