History of Service

In 1982 the Epworth United Methodist Church was asked if we could help serve lunch to the citizens of the
Mt. Healthy Christian Home (a retirement home for the elderly of the area).  Our pastor, Rev. Stan Lawrence, asked all of the Sunday school classes for help in staffing this outreach endeavor.

And help they did...

Dot Prop volunteered to organize the mission. So in 1982, she, Rev. Lawrence, and 10 to 14 other souls started serving lunch every first Friday of each month to the residents of the home.

Duties included:

Assisting individuals who were having difficulties carrying their trays to the tables.

Serving the meals to those unable to wait in the serving line.

General assistance to all in the dining room.

After all were served, the volunteers have their lunch and then bus all of the tables.
We leave the dining room ready for the next meal.

Each year the Christian Home has a "Recognition Luncheon" for the volunteers of which our church is one among many.  Individual churches are introduced after which favors are given in appreciation.

In 2004 we still have a list of 14 helpers, many of them a part of the original list from 1982.
